Like most young girls, I grew up loving horses. Riding them or watching them is still a special treat. Attending a rodeo event at CJM Country Stables is not just about horses, it is about participating in a very local event. There is tasty food available and everyone is in a good mood. If you like taking photos, you’ll find some nice opportunities here. CJM is located near the Grand Hyatt Hotel on the south shore of Kauai in the Poipu area.
This particular event on July 10th 2010 was a memorial roping day for Harold Aiu, a well-loved Paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy), who died July 5, 2009 at 89. He was active in the rodeo events at CJM well into his 80’s.
These photos are from the all-women barrel racing event.
There are regular roping and rodeo events and a very special event to benefit cancer in the fall.
There is a full set of these all women barrel racing photos on my Flickr.
